I have bought a fluval filter to replace my undergravel filter. What is the best way to change the filters?
Betty's shopping

I have had an under gravel filter for a while, but have been convinced through reading posts that a filter along the lines of a fluval underwater is superior. I would like to use my new filter, but do not want to risk my fish by disturbing them too much. Please can anyone give me some advice on the change over. Would I need to use the two filters togther for a while?

run the two together for 2 weeks to allow the beneficial bacteria in the new fluval to gather,
you Can run the two together if you want all the time but if you don't want to allow at least two weeks of running the two together

What has been your experience with electronic air filters?
3M Respiration

I use a Timeline brand CG-1000 electronic air filter in my air handler. Electronic air filters, as opposed to electrostatic ones, filter air using a charged electrical grid plus filter pads.

I found mine a bit of a struggle to replace, but it has kept my coil completely clean now for 3 years. I just vacuum it monthly, and change the pads about every 3 months. I had to replace the filter assembly after 3 years as the thing failed on me.

I would like to hear your experiences.

I have seen some that are really good, and some that would make good anchors. Unfortunately, the good ones seem to be the most expensive.

If what you have is working for you, and you are happy with it, then it's a good one!

What order should filters be placed in aquarium?
Check Out These Cans!

I have an Aqua One AR980 215lt tank which has an over head wet/dry filtration system filtering 1000lt per hour. It has three bins for filters and I have ceramic noodles, ammonia sponge, carbon sponge, cotton and a plain sponge. The water arrives at the top of the basket and leaves through the bottom. What order do you suggest I put the media in?

top to bottom
plain sponge
ceramic pieces
ceramic pieces
ceramic pieces
etc etc

the other stuff ammonia sponge, carbon sponge is just ridiculous. its a waste of money, its a sponge peppered with material. if you want carbon or ammonia use granulated carbon and cranuladed ammonia chips. they last longer and work better than sponges.

all you need is one sponge to mechanically filter then biologically after. i personally dont use any chemical filtration, i advise using a sponge and filling the rest with biological media or those ceramic pieces.

why? its more stable, never requires changing or cleaning. all you have to do is clean the sponge.

How are water filters like Brita better for the environment?

Than plastic bottles when you can recycle the plastic bottles but have to toss the Brita filters in the garbage?

Does somewhere recycle Brita filters?

In Canada, every Brita filter comes with an envelope to return the used filter for recycling. This is not the case in the US for some strange reason. We should really complain to Brita about that.

I've been putting my Brita filters in the recycle bin.

Can I setup two filters for my 55 gallon fish tank?
My coffemaker

I am getting over an ammonia spike that killed all my fish (from too many fish and probably overfeeding). I purchased a new tank because I figured now is the time to do it before I get all established again. I have the dual bio-wheel filter from my current tank (for 55+ gallons) and an Aqua-Tech dual bio-filter for my new tank. Can I set both these up on the new tank and get things moving faster (as far as getting bacteria established) and keep it extra clean? I've never used a bio-filter, so I dont know anything about it, I've always had a bio-wheel, and don't know anything about running two filters.... I can't "over filter" my water can I??

Thanks!

All my tanks over 30 gallons, I run 2 filters. My larger tanks I run a double bio wheel and a canister filter. No, you can't over filter the tank. I would still do regular weekly water changes on the tank though.

Now, just because you have the extra filter on there, it's not going to make it cycle quicker. It'll still take about 8-12 weeks for the tank to cycle. It's just better to have the extra filtration on tanks. For a 55 gallon tank, you want a filter or filters that will put out a minimum of 550 gallons per hour, but depending on the type of fish you plan on keeping, you should up that figure, like an oscar should have double the figure-1100 gph for example. Good luck with your new tank!

  • SealCOS filters search results using certified brand sites ...

SealCOS is announcing today that it is launching a certification process to ensure that consumers are visiting an authentic site belonging to a well-known brand. The Seal of a Certified Site is meant to sift officials sites from the pretenders.

New York-based SealCOS’s recognition is like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval and will be used to identify official web sites for all sorts of brands. That’s necessary because some of the imposters can often engineer web sites so that their results appear higher than official sites in typical search results.

Brands can apply for the SealCOS certification, and upon approval they can put the SealCOS mark on their sites.

The SealCOS mark appears in web site titles that are returned from search queries. Consumers can also filter search results by putting “SealCOS” into a search query to get only official sites. You could search for “leather luggage SealCOS” to get the results of legitimate brands that sell luggage, said Charles Cheheber, founder and chief executive of the company.
