what is a good gift to give someone who likes to spend time in the backyard watering and taking care of plants

Find a small garden bench or paint an old chair to have them sit amongst the plantings if possible.

Maybe give them some herbs to plant that they do not have, or if they like to add annual flowers, buy them some starter kit supplies and seeds to grow their own in the winter and be ready to plant in the Spring. Bundle your goodies in a nice watering can or bucket and add some small hand tools & gloves to use.

My favorite thing is getting a mailbox painted with the name on it and say like Anna's Garden or something special on it. Tell them to plant amongst the plants and have everything they need right there inside of the mailbox. It holds tools, plant food, gloves, and even a small hat. It is organized and original, and out of the weather too.

Iron cut out sculpted figures, wagon wheels for trellises, etc. would work for me too. Butterfly houses, hummingbird feeders are a good choice as well.

This question has gone six days without an answer. It would help if you provided a general location. Best bet is to apply for a job, hope for an interview, and ask the question in the interview. You also might want to ask an employee for a general idea as to pay for an entry level position in the store.

Hi, I want to make a gardening gift basket for my mother in law for her birthday. What are some practical things I can put into the planter. I am setting everything up in a rustic wheel barrel planter I purchased. I also wanted to add some extra things...and I thought of a nail brush and nice hand cream any other extras come to mind that I should add? Thanks a lot.



P.S. I don't want to include seed packets or bulbs, since she already has most of that stuff

Nice gloves are always a plus and any good, sturdy hand tools. Good quality pruners are hard to come by, she would probably appreciate that. If you're in the city, include a couple bags of composted manure. Try to find some plants she may not have. I don't know your zone, but prickly pear are a fun cactus that are hardy in zone 5+ and maybe even zone 4. Agave is another underused succulent. Tons of varieties - really cool.

How about a wreath or sign she can post on her door - "In the Garden". Garden catalogs are always fun too. Tons available , most in full color. A nice sun hat, sunscreen, lip balm w/sunscreen are also nice gifts. Ohhh, I have a garden tote bag that I absolutely love! You can store your tools or whatever inside and there is pockets all around the outside. I think it's waterproof too. Special hose nozzles are a good gift, a trellis, decorative outdoor pots, a fountain. My father passed away a couple months ago and I want to get my mom something special. She loves to garden and my dad and her use to share that bond. Is there any new great gardening tools or things out there that you recommend?

How about a nice big basket, the size she could take into the garden to put her gear and any produce in, and fill it with new hand tools, seeds, gardening gloves, and maybe a gift certificate to her favorite garden store--if a nearby garden center doesn't offer them, Lowe's has great plants and a lot of gardening supplies.

I know how to make them, but I am looking for a website or some other inspiration for decorating them. i.e. glass or stone imbedded in them or writing on them? I need pattern ideas.

Look up a book on making garden ornaments at the library. Also I think Michaels sells the kits. One idea is to make stepping stones, one for each person in the family and get each person to embed their handprints on each stone. Even the dog and the cat can get in on the act.
