It just stopped all of a sudden when I was mowing the lawn. Took off the cover thing over the belt and when I restarted it, it wouldn't move. Model num. 917.37360 Please, I'm not a mechanic so simple terms?
Oh yeah, it's self propelled and the front wheels won't move.
Belt could be off pulley, or the key (small piece of metal bar that holds pulley to shaft) either broke, or came out. Remove the drive pulley from the mower bottom and check that there's a key fitted in the slots of both the shaft and pulley.
If the key is broken or missing, you can get another from Sears by giving the model #. Easy to install. There's a right-side-up, and you know when the pulley slides on easily when you have the key in the shaft slot, and lined up with the pulley slot.
This Is The 1998 Craftsman Eager 1 Lawn Mower That Needs A Bit Of Work!
I started it up fine, but after I emptied the catch bag and put it back on, the lawn mower won't start. Actually, the starter cord won't budge when I pull on it to try and start the motor. Is this some kind of safety feature I don't know about?
Sounds like the safety kill lever is not disengaging.
Your nearest Sears store should be able to order you the part for your mower. Sears outsources the manufacture of their "Craftsman" brand mowers and the motor may be a Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, or other well known brand. A lawn mower repair shop, other than Sears, may also be able to provide you the part.
Good luck with your search.
My 3-4 year old Craftsman Eager 1 lawn mower that starts when pulled but then immediately stalls. Lots of oil and gas, and it ran about 2 weeks ago fine, but now when I start it up it starts puffing and then dies. Air filter? Spark plug? Treatment? Help! Thanks!
I am assuming that your mower has a Tecumseh engine. Tecumseh has a good website with the following basic service manual. There are some really good problem flow charts and replacement part numbers. Hope this helps.

where can i get a free owners manual for a craftsman push mower eager 1 ? I need to know how to wire it back up. Mice chewed the wires.
You can download the owner's manual for free from www.managemyhome.com The easiest way to get to the right manual is to go to www.sears.com/parts website enter the model number of the lawn mower and do a search and in the search results page on the right side you will see a blue button "View manuals". Click this button and it will take you to www.managemyhome.com website to download the manual. You have to register (FREE) at managemyhome website.
I#39;m Fixing Up My Old Lawn Mower – DR1665.com
My dad bought this Craftsman Eager-1 push mower some thirty years ago. There is beauty in its simplicity. As dad told me years ago, “Turn it to ‘HI,’ prime it three times, put your foot here, and give the starter a solid pull.” So long as there was gas in the tank, I’m here to tell you that mower started on the first try I spent many a summer afternoon behind this old Craftsman.
When my family moved to Phoenix about ten years ago, the trusty mower went with them. It sat in storage for a couple years while they found a house. That house ended up having gravel yards, so it continued to sit in the garage. One afternoon, I stopped by the house and saw the mower sitting beside the house. When I asked why it was out, I was told dad planned on rolling it out to the curb in the morning. Much like Chunk told Sloth at the end of the Goonies, as I loaded the mower into the back of the Volvo that afternoon, I said,
The oil was drained prior to being shipped to Europe (we did *move* there), but it wasn’t used over there, so it might be that this guy has sat for closer to twenty years, but I still expect it to start on the first try when I have everything cleaned up and back together. I’ve already got a new spark plug, air filter and mulching blade, which ran me a grand total of $25 and change. I’ll either find a replacement muffler or try my hand at making one.
